NOW ACCEPTING ARTWORK!

This exhibition, a partnership between the Putnam Arts Council and the Center for the Digital Arts Gallery, Peekskill Extension, Westchester Community College, will connect and showcase the grassroots talent of artists across the Hudson Valley, from Peekskill to Poughkeepsie, in the partner galleries. The opening will be at the Putnam Arts Council while the closing will be at the Center for the Digital Arts Gallery, Peekskill Extension, Westchester Community College.

 

Under the theme of Grass+Roots, the exhibition will survey and celebrate the beauty, strength, and resilience of the art and artists of the Hudson Valley. All genres, media, and technology will be considered. The show will be juried for exhibition and awards by Patricia Miranda.

 
 

 
Eligibility: New York Artists from "Peekskill to Poughkeepsie" (comprising northern Westchester, Putnam and southern Dutchess counties). Artists 18 years or older, are invited to submit up to 6 pieces of original work created in the last 3 years. Painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, photography, digital art, sculpture, pottery and mixed media are accepted. All styles, up to 36 inches in any direction for 2-dimensional work, 3-dimensional work must be manageable by one person.
 
Submission of Artwork - Digital Images: Artwork will be accepted until August 27th, midnight.  For questions email grassrootshelp@gmail.com. See below for further instructions and a video tutorial that details the submission process.


How to Submit Artwork:

  • You will have to register first.
  • Click the button (link) at the top left of the screen that says, “Register & Apply.”
  • Create an account/user profile, including a password. Keep this info for future logins
  • Once logged in, you will see “the “User Dashboard” click on: Add New Submission +
  • Enter the entry details and click on: Submit Entry Details
  • Click on: + Add Attachment to upload your entry
  • After it finishes uploading click on: Complete & View Entry
  • Now you see a message confirming your successful submission J, click on: Got it!
  • If you want to submit another entry (limit of two), click on: Add New Submission+
  • Repeat the above process

Awards: Selected artworks will be exhibited in the galleries of the Putnam Arts Council and the Center for the Digital Arts, Peekskill Extension, Westchester Community College. and online from October 2nd to November 7th, 2021. The selected artworks will be promoted for sale through the online exhibition.

Best of Show ($250), Second Place ($200) and Third Place ($150) will be awarded at the opening of the exhibition. Additionally, Public Choice ($75) and Artist Selection ($75) prizes will be awarded at the closing of the exhibition.

Promotional badges for the selected artwork will be sent to each artist to share in social media. 

About the Juror: 
Patricia Miranda is an artist, curator, and educator. She is founder of The Crit Lab graduate-level critical seminars for artists, and MAPSpace project space and residency program. Her work is grounded in deep research into historic material practices, rituals of grief and mourning, women’s labor, and the violence of environmental and gendered commodification. She works primarily with textile in site-responsive installations, and with deaccessioned religious books. She considers materials as witness, carriers of historical, ecological, and cultural information that becomes subtext in the work. She has been Visiting Artist at Vermont Studio Center, the Heckscher Museum, and University of Utah; and been awarded residencies at I-Park, Weir Farm, Vermont Studio Center, and Julio Valdez Printmaking Studio. She has received numerous prestigious grants and recognitions. She has taught at the New Hampshire Institute of Art, Western Colorado University, University of New Haven, Concordia College-NY and developed educational content and programs for numerous institutions. Her work has been exhibited at ODETTA Gallery, ABC No Rio, Wave Hill, and Rio II Gallery, in NYC; The Alexey von Schlippe Gallery at UConn Avery Point, Groton, CT; the Cape Museum of Fine Art, Cape Cod MA; and the Belvedere Museum, Vienna Austria. She has a solo exhibition upcoming at Garrison Art Center in Garrison NY in fall 2021.

Entry Fees:  $30 for 3 pieces, $5 for each additional artwork up to 6 pieces (non-refundable).

Timeline:
Submission Deadline:  August 27th, 2021.
Accepted Artists Notified: September 12th, 2021, including drop-off directions.
Artwork Drop-Off: September 12th- 24th, 2021, at the designated location.
Exhibition Dates: October 2nd - November 7th, 2021.

Opening (Award Ceremony): Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, 2:00pm-5:00pm, at the A. Eric Arctander Gallery @ the Belle Levine Art Center, 521 Kennicut Hill Road, Mahopac, New York.

Closing (Award Ceremony): Sunday, November 7th, 2021, noon-4:00pm, at the Center for the Digital Arts Gallery, Peekskill Extension, Westchester Community College, 27 North Division Street, Peekskill, New York.

Putnam Art Council: Sunday, Nov. 7 and Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2 - 5 p.m.
Digital Arts Gallery, Peekskill Extension, Westchester Community College: After the closing and before November 15th.
