The drawing component of my artistic practice is a rigorous lesson in the anatomy of place. After making temporary, on-site installations at a chosen location, the drawings are made from photographs of these installations. The renderings are periodically interrupted by expanses of white space where, in the photographs, I had added my own marks. While this positive/negative investigation inspires conversation about the relationship between object (environment) and erasure (human), closer inspection reveals an intimate, meditative, honesty in the marks. These drawings emphasize contrast: knowledge and wisdom, power and reciprocity, destruction and gratitude. Yet, they are loyal and sincere; diligent pupils of the land.
