Today I Got Up, chronicles the front page of the New York Times during the Trump administration. It is a recent iteration within my ongoing project, Residual Ink Drawings, a series that utilizes reclaimed ink from empty ink jet cartridges. This work examines a week of headlines, noting its font size. If the font exceeds 30 points, I select two words and place them on a page creating a sort of concrete poetry. I then draw the words from the rear of the paper pushing it through the pulp, rendering the words, at times, unreadable. For me this application mimics and visualizes how our daily experiences are layered, absorbed and stored within us as we wait for the future to arrive.
